I've recently changed my name for good. From now on, my name would be Charllotte (pronounced as 'Sharlet'). Charllotte Ashlie in full. Boy, I LOVE MY NEW NAME!

I'll also be changing my Chinese name (update coming up in my next post). I'm really excited about the change. It felt as though I was given a new lease of life. :p

Meet Sully!

Last week I mentioned that I'd pick a random pet from my Instagram follower list to work with each week, but then I thought of my dear Nono in heaven and decided I want to give a chance to pet owners who'd lost their beloved pet as well. Today, I've chosen this super tiny and adorable kitty, Sully, to work with. Sully was born with cleft nose/lip/palate. I think that's what made him more special! Anyway, the wonderful people at Utah Animal Advocacy Foundation (UAAF) took him in to give him all the love and medical care he needed, but unfortunately he passed away too soon. Even with his brief time here, Sully's beautiful story touches the lives of many, some who'd known him merely through FB, myself included. They even have a ‪#‎smilesfromsully‬ 's day on every Thursday where a random act of kindness is carry out in honour of little Sully! Superhero Adventure (part 8)

I've decided to expand my search for superheroes to non-superheroes as well since many interesting characters I spotted can hardly be classified as a superhero. This was one of them.

I found this cute little fellow as I went hiking in the forest over the weekend. He was watering some mushrooms.. many mushrooms actually.. like literally over hundreds or even thousands of them? He told me he lives there with his brother and they both have a thing for mushrooms.. not sure why. I think he mentioned something about it making them grow taller and stronger? Hmmm...

Sweet Friend & Bella

We all have that one friend who will always be there for us in good times or bad. You know you can be your completely weird, goofy self around them (sometimes they may even be weirder or crazier than you!). I'm blessed to have a few such friends in my life (you know who you are). Thank you for loving me for who I am. I love you! <3

Happy 50th, Singapore!

August 9, 2015

One of my favourite childhood memories was spending time at the iconic Dragon-shaped playground with my brother and cousins. We enjoyed playing 'catching' (police and thief), 'one leg' (hopping around with one leg) and lighting up the whole playground with candles and lanterns during Mid-Autumn Festival. Haha! Oh... those were the days!

Singapore has come a long way and I'm truly blessed to be a part of the country. I wish for Singapore's peace, harmony and prosperity always.

An Animal's Love

Some people believe that pets are more than just our furry friends; they are our spiritual guides or soul companions, and they are here to guide us, to teach us important life's lessons. I couldn’t agree more. If there were no Nono, there would be no Dollgift, and you won't be seeing drawings of a little girl exploring the world with her cute doxie! I hope everyone who comes across my drawings be inspired by their sense of wonder. :)

I did not grow up in a positive or supportive environment. In fact I have a critical mother who never fails to make me doubt myself. Being an introvert, INFJ and HSP all rolled into one only make things more complicated. I don’t share work related stuffs at home because I know their negative remark is going to affect me. I love my family and I have no doubt they love and cared for me too, but sadly, things don’t always work out the way we hoped no matter how hard we try. Sometimes we just have to go against the wind and do what we feel is best for us. I won’t deny it’s a very challenging path I have chosen. But then again, I have never felt more alive in my entire life. Because of my perseverance, I was able to do the things I enjoy and support the causes I care deeply about. I know if this is my life’s purpose, I’m going to have to keep my faith and trust the universe to guide me.

I have always felt a strong connection with animals. I want to support animal rights not just by monetary means but also through my lifestyle preferences. I have been on a mostly vegetarian diet since 2006 (I said 'mostly' because I still consume fish occasionally) and I try to use cruelty-free products. Now after learning about the horrific treatments of farm animals, I want to go vegan.

I have an envelope labelled ‘Angel Charity Fund’ where I put 10 percent of each sale I make (50 percent from my DOGs collection) inside. Every now and then I come across appeal for financial aids for animal shelters/ rescue centres on social medias, or whichever emergency cases I feel called to help, this is where the fund goes. I also like to contribute my works for fundraising efforts.

Anyway, the purpose of this post is to share my career journey with you. I sincerely want to thank each and every one of you who has supported me in every little ways. Without you, I won't be able to pursue my dreams. I hope by sharing my story, you too, will be inspired to live yours.

I pray that sweet Nono from above will continue to guide me in helping more animals. ^^

Past Works - Melancholy Collection

Here are some paintings/ drawings I did between 2009 and 2010 for my Melancholy collection. It was one of my favourite collections; dedicated to a close friend I lost to a car accident 12 years ago. Although I try to create only happy drawings now, sometimes I do missed painting melancholy art as it allows me a space to express and release any sadness.

I had my first real art lesson when I was about 9. My parents signed me up for weekly art classes at some community centre because they couldn't afford piano lessons (something I'd also love) back then. So that was where I learned to draw/ paint with different mediums - mainly pencils, crayons and watercolour. I stopped at acrylic painting when I was about 13 and got busy with school life. Anyway long story short, years later, I caved in to peer pressure's 'art degree will get you nowhere', 'you can't make a decent living making art' perception and chose fashion design over fine arts course. The big irony? That's exactly what I'm doing now - making a living with my art.

Admittedly I still can't draw human figures in the correct proportions; I can't draw fingers and toes, my perspective and shadowing is terrible. Ha! But that doesn't stop me from drawing. And yes, I still dream to become a picture book illustrator someday.

For A Good Cause (Saving Turtles)

Did you know a female sea turtle lays between 50 - 130 eggs (depending on the species) and as many as 7 clutches of eggs each nesting season? Did you also know that the sand temperature will determine the sex of the turtle - cooler sand produces more males, warmer sands produce more females?

Sadly, only an estimated one in 1,000 to 10,000 will survive to adulthood... natural obstacles and threats caused by humans are driving them to extinction. Therefore it's really important that we make sure the sea turtles don't die out before it's too late!

As mentioned in my earlier posts, the Singapore Scout Association (SSA) partners with World Wide Fund for Nature Malaysia (WWF-Malaysia) annually to raise awareness on the importance of Wildlife Conservation; Project Orion: Rovering with Turtles being the sixth project in the series of annual project this year. Superhero Adventure (part 6):

OMG, THERE HE IS!!!! My heart was racing and I could hardly breathe when he smiled at me. Oh my irresistibly charming Superhero. He was holding some pretty flowers and balloons which obviously were not for me. He told me he was on his way to Jane's birthday party and those were for her. My heart shattered into a zillion pieces... But it's okay, I'm contented that I got the chance to take a selfie with him. Heh!

Superhero Adventure (part 5)

So I heard they were in town...

I was so lucky to run into not just one but several of them. They looked like a bunch of excited bananas running down the street chasing bubbles. Well, I'm not sure if they can be considered Superheroes but I'd like to think they are? Perhaps their super power is the ability to charm people of all ages with their cuteness and quirkiness. But on another note, I do think they aged quite abit since I saw them last year. What do you think? Anyway I'm trying VERY hard to learn their language so we can communicate better next time.

Rovering With Turtles

Cute news!

I've always love animals and is constantly on the lookout for ways to help any animal support groups/ organisations. This time round, I’m getting myself involved in not just a meaningful but SUPER CUTE collaboration with the Singapore Scout Association (SSA) on their latest project - Project Orion VI. 'Rovering with Turtles' is the sixth project in the series of annual project collaborations between the SSA and World Wide Fund for Nature Malaysia (WWF-Malaysia).

This project aims to create awareness on the importance of Wildlife Conservation among the participants and Scouting community in Singapore, providing opportunities to Youths to increase their self and global awareness, etc.

Now the cute part.... One of their tasks is to create a safe place for the sea turtles to lay eggs. And when the babies are ready to see the world, to guide them safely into the sea! Protecting baby turtles, how cute!

So, in support of their fundraising effort, I’ll be creating some turtle-themed illustrations and sell them to raise fund. Here’s the very first piece I did, titled 'Vacation'. Stop Yulin 2015

Due to the urgency of the matter, here is my second post of the day...

In just a few days time, 22 June, the yearly Yulin (China) Dog Meat Festival will take place. Around 10000 cats and dogs, many of which are stolen pets, will be tortured and slaughtered. Google it and you'll see haunting images of how these innocent animals were being tormented, then killed..

Please help to sign the petition to stop this insane 'festival'. I'm not sure if it's going to help much by simply signing the petition, but what I do know is I can't sit here and do nothing. I believe in the power of social media and the power of our voice. Even if we do not succeed this time, at least more people are aware of it.

Superhero Adventure (part 4)

It wasn't hard to spot this Superhero from far. The only thing I had to worry about was getting stepped on. Thankfully that didn't happen. He was rushing off to catch the Spiderman II movie when I found him and so he invited me to join him. Of course I said yes! This sweet gentle giant carried me to sit on his shoulder during the show so I could have the best view (we even shared a gigantic box of popcorn!) Needless to say, it was the BEST movie date I ever had. But..... I really hope I'll get to see Thor soon. :p

Superhero Adventure (part 2)

I'd been searching the whole town before the sun came out today but there was no Superhero in sight. As dark clouds started to gather and rain began to fall, I decided to call it a day. Wait a second... I suddenly felt a shadow over my head. As I glanced up, I couldn't believe my eyes. There he was, the second Superhero of my search, holding his shield over my head to shelter me from the pouring rain. I wished it'd rain forever!

Luckily I collected some raindrops and a handful of clouds in a bottle to keep as souvenir. Don't laugh! It's not everyday we get to run into a Superhero, let alone a sweet encounter like this (happy sigh)...
